San Bernardo da Quintavalle and the Chapel of the Miracle

Long before belonging to the noble Sbaraglini family, the palace was already part of the historic fabric of Assisi, woven into the city’s cultural and Franciscan heritage.
The Palace once belonged to the family of San Bernardo da Quintavalle, Saint Francis’s closest friend. It was Bernardo who welcomed Francesco into his home the night of his mystical vision, the turning point that led him to a life of pure faith and charity.
That night, within these walls, the Miracle took place: the only miracle of Saint Francis ever recorded in Assisi. A chapel was later built to preserve its memory, and remains consecrated to this day.
